What is Urine ACR?

This test looks at your urinary albumin:creatinine ratio (ACR). The ACR test checks your kidney function using a urine sample. It looks for particles of protein in your urine called albumin. If there is albumin in your urine, this means you are at increased risk of kidney and heart disease. If this is picked up at an early stage, you can be put on medication that will reduce your risk of any complications.

Why should I get this tested?

If you are living with conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or have a family history of kidney disease, a urine ACR test is an important part of your routine health management as you may be at increased risk for kidney disease. The simple test will detect any reduction in your kidney function and allow us to better manage your health conditions. With regular checks you can reduce the risk of any of these complications.

How do I get a test?

This test is usually sent to our laboratory after providing a sample to the surgery during your routine reviews. More recently we are working with a company called Healthy.io who provide a 'Minuteful Kidney urine test kit' free to your home. An accompanying free-to-download app is used to photograph the result and send it electronically to the surgery automatically. The test is really easy to do and only requires access to a smartphone.

This result is sent to the surgery in the same way as other tests, your clinician will contact you as part of your other investigations.

To opt out of this service, please contact us online or call the surgery
