What are the benefits to me?

Anima is designed to help patients get the right care as quickly and safely as possible.

Using your smartphone, tablet, or other internet connected device, you will be able to submit requests directly to our clinical team. Anima will ask you a series of questions tailored to your medical or administration need. The team will then review your request and respond via Anima to offer the most appropriate solution. This could include written advice and signposting, the prescribing of medication, or the offer of an appointment at an appropriate time.

If your request is submitted before 3pm, we aim to respond on the same day.

  • You can provide all the information that the practice requires to help you, without waiting on the phone.
  • You will be asked questions based on your concerns but without the medical jargon.
  • You will have the most appropriate and qualified clinician respond to your request, meaning you get the best help at the best time.
  • You will be able to log onto the dashboard to see the outcomes of your past requests.

What if I don't have a smartphone or internet access?

Anima works on any connected internet device such as tablets and computers. If you do not have internet or are not able to use Anima, we have an alternative process for patients to follow.

If you have a relative or carer who can submit requests on your behalf, you can be added to their Anima account as a 'dependant'. This is ideal for parents or guardians of young children or relatives of elderly patients. However, both patients need to be registered at Burdwood Surgery to do this but you do not need to live at the same address.

To add a dependant, log into your Anima account. Navigate to 'settings' and click on the option 'dependants & children'. Follow the instructions to add a dependant. You will need the personal details of your dependant/child, including NHS number, date of birth and full name. If any details don't match to our records, the account will need to be manually verified by a member of the Burdwood Surgery team. Please contact us to arrange this.

Once your dependant has been added, you can create requests on their behalf. When submitting a request, you will be prompted to select who the request is for. You can select from your list of dependants.

If you don't have internet access, or anyone to help you with the Anima requests, please do not worry. Any patient who may not be able to complete the form or use digital solutions should let us know as soon as possible. This will not affect your equitable access to appointments at the surgery

How do I register for an Anima account as a patient?

Register for an Anima account here

The Anima homepage will ask you to create an account using your email address. Enter your email address when prompted. If an account is already set up with that email address, you will be asked to enter your password. If you cannot remember your password, you can reset it by clicking on 'Reset your password'.

If there isn't an Anima account linked to your email address, you will be asked to create a password. Before you can go further, you will need to verify your email address. Please go to your email provider and follow the instructions. If you haven't received the email, check your junk mail.

The next screen will ask you to enter your personal details.
If you don't know your NHS number, you can leave this box empty. However, your account will be pending, awaiting verification by Burdwoood Surgery staff.
You will not be able to create a request until we verify your Anima account. If you need to submit an Anima request urgently, please call reception and one of the team will verify your account.

You only need to register for an account once.

Alternatively, you can use the same login for the NHS App to log into Anima.

How do I make a request?

Once you have created an account, you will have access to the Anima dashboard. From here, you can click on ‘Submit a new request’ to start a new online request.

First you will need to specify if the problem is a medical query or an administration query. Administration queries include but are not limited to: test results enquiries, sick notes, etc. These will be submitted to our Reception and Administration team to review and complete.

If the request is a medical query, select the 'Medical request' option. You will be prompted to select who the query is for. If you have dependants or children linked to your Anima account, you will see them in the drop down list.

You will be asked some questions about your concern. Please complete these with as much detail to ensure you can be seen by the correct clinician in a suitable timeframe.

What happens to my request once I have submitted it?

Your request comes into the surgery dashboard to be reviewed by one of our clinicians. If your request has been submitted before 3pm, we aim to review your request and reply to you on that day. If your request is an administration query, it will be reviewed by a member of our administration or reception team.

For medical requests, based on the information you have provided, our clinicians will decide when you need to be seen and by who. This could be on the same day, the next day or in a week's time. It could be a phone call with a clinician or a face-to-face appointment. We do this so we can ensure that we are seeing the right patients at the right time by the most appropriate clinician.

You will receive an email and a text from Anima when we have responded to your request. You will need to sign into the Anima dashboard to see the response.

When you log into the Anima website, navigate to 'View your requests'. If the request has been completed, it will show in the 'closed' area. Click on 'View outcome' to see our response.

The outcome message may say that we have sent you a link to book an appointment with one of our clinicians. To find this link, go back to the Anima homepage and click on 'View your appointments'. You will find the invitation in the 'invitations' area. Select the most appropriate date and time for you and confirm your choice.

How do I see requests I have already submitted?

By logging into your Anima account. On the homepage, you wll see a section called 'View your requests' and in here you will be able to see all in progress and closed requests.

To find any appointment invitations we may have sent you or to see when your appointment is booked for, navigate to the 'View your appointments' section. In here you will see outstanding appointment invitations and also any upcoming or cancelled appointments.

What are the benefits of using Anima to the practice?

As a practice, Burdwood Surgery will benefit because:

  • We will be able to see your request in a clear and structured format.
  • We will have more information about your concern so that we can refer you to the correct person quickly. This means that you will get a quicker response to your request.
  • Your requests will come into our dashboard with a rating so we can prioritise the urgency of your request.
  • By increasing the efficiency of our triage process, we hope to reduce the wait for a routine appointment
