Welcome to Burdwood Surgery
In 2001 the Burdwood Surgery became a training practice. As a training practice, hospital doctors wanting to enter General Practice can spend up to twelve months with us in order to gain the experience they need to become family doctors. The title given to the Doctor in training is GP Registrar, reflecting the fact that they are a qualified doctor and here to learn about practising General Practice within our surgery.
Dr Bal Bahia and Dr Pete Osborne are qualified GP trainers.
We have had many successful GP Registrars through the doors of the Burdwood Surgery and we have been lucky enough to have some of them return to us as qualified GPs. These include Dr Pete Osborne (who is now a Partner of the Burdwood Surgery and also qualified as a GP trainer in 2015), Dr Xanthe Phillips (who became a Partner in 2016), Dr Elizabeth Field (who became a salaried GP in 2014) and Dr Nick Parkinson (who became a salaried GP in August 2019).
A visiting team from the Oxford Deanery inspected the surgery to ensure we provide the appropriate standard of care, levels of organisation and an environment that would be conductive for a training practice. The staff and Partners have all worked hard to achieve this. As a Training Practice for registrars; we have to have regular inspections and produce a portfolio of evidence, our last full inspection was held in September 2014 and we were highly regarded.
We are strongly committed to providing high standards of care in an efficiently organised Practice, without losing the friendly touch that has been the hallmark of this Practice since its initial inception in 1987. We are committed to training doctors to become GPs.
If you have any questions about any of the above, please feel free to ask at Reception.
