NHS Weight Management Support at Burdwood Surgery

Burdwood Surgery is now participating in a newly commissioned NHS service aimed at helping patients manage obesity and improve long-term health. This initiative offers access to structured support and, for the first time, includes Mounjaro (tirzepatide), a weekly injection that promotes weight loss, available through GP practices.

What the Programme Offers

  • Enhancing wellbeing and lowering future health risks
  • Identifying individuals who may benefit from targeted support
  • Prescribing treatments like Mounjaro safely and appropriately
  • Linking patients with broader lifestyle and dietary resources

Eligibility Criteria

The NHS is introducing Mounjaro gradually. Eligibility depends on Body Mass Index (BMI) and specific health conditions (known as comorbidities).

Please note:

  • The criteria are strict and set nationally.
  • If you qualify, our team will contact you directly.
  • We kindly ask that you do not contact the surgery to request Mounjaro.

What to Expect If Invited

If you're selected to take part, your journey begins with an initial consultation:

  • Assessment of BMI, medical history, and current medications
  • Evaluation of whether Mounjaro is suitable and safe for you

If treatment is initiated:

  • Regular reviews to monitor progress and manage any side effects
  • Participation in a structured NHS lifestyle programme - required to continue treatment
  • A six-month review to assess weight loss (minimum 5% reduction needed to proceed)

More Than Just Medication

This service includes access to:

  • Expert nutritional guidance
  • Behavioural and lifestyle coaching
  • Support for managing cravings and emotional triggers
  • Ongoing reviews

Important Information

  • Mounjaro is a newly approved medication and is subject to enhanced safety monitoring.
  • It is only available through the NHS Obesity Pathway and cannot be prescribed independently.
  • If you are not contacted, it means you do not meet the current NHS eligibility criteria.

Other Weight Loss Options

If you're not eligible or prefer alternative approaches, the NHS offers additional support:

  • NHS Digital Weight Loss Programme (if applicable)
  • NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (if applicable)
  • NHS Type 2 Diabetes Remission Programme (if applicable)
